into
the great southern sky
a baby sparrow

About this poem

Last Spring, we had a bird’s nest just outside our kitchen window. My six year old daughter and I used to check the eggs every day. After the chicks were hatched we watched the mother defend them and feed them and then, one by one, the chicks flew away into the sky away from their mother. The same as I did to my mother and my daughter will do to me.

About Paul Hodder

I was born in England and am 48 but look and feel older. This may be due to my job as a Customer Service Manager for an international airline that has me spending more time in the air than on the ground. I love silence and what it brings. Despite this, I like nothing better than spending time with my beautiful wife and my muse, my six year old daughter. I live at Sanctuary Lakes and stare out of the window a lot.
