urban eucalyptus
over what shady dealings
have you photosynthesised?

About this poem

I wrote this poem on the train.  There are some massive eucalyptus trees at Glenroy Station that I pass every day.  In this neck of the woods you will occasionally see people swapping dubious little parcels, envelopes and things.  This often occurs at train stations and in car parks. I’ve seen it happen in broad daylight, and I’m sure it happens in the night as well, when the only witnesses are trees.  Sometimes, immersed as we are in our urban lives, it’s easy to forget that the trees are a constant, living presence.

About Hannah Paton

I grew up on the far north coast of NSW in the Tweed and Byron Districts. My family moved from place to place, with a trailing menagerie of pets. I come from a family of five kids, most of whom write poetry. I moved to Melbourne in 2007, where I am currently studying Film and Television Production. I want to make documentaries.
