I thought about the many icons of Melbourne that I have seen on visits, never having really bothered when I lived there! For some reason the Aquarium came to mind with the image of the people walking around reflecting the movements inside the tanks. The last line, with its alliteration of s-sounds, seemed to carry this image forward.

Having written some short stories, poems and dabbled in painting, I married, raised a family, had a career and only came back to poetry three years ago. I have worked in many parts of eastern Australia and this is reflected in the images that tend to be the inspiration for many of my poems. That, and the many emotional pressures we all endure!
